    Aims and Outcomes
  • To improve our community maintained park, which is an Urban Conservaton Area.
  • To create disabled access into the grounds from Beaconsfield Terrace.
  • To remove over 80 metres of privet and rusted fencing with new ornate fencing.
  • To encourage and involve an increased number of local people in the improvement and care for the flowerbeds and maintenance of the grounds.
  • To encourage use of this underused facility.
  • To provide an improved opportunity for gentle exercise and social recreation.
  • To improve the path from the gate on Carr Rise up to the bowling green, to allow access to those with limited mobility.
  • To commence the recycling of leaves and cuttings from the bowling green into green waste compost.
  • Some of the many trees in the park area needed arboriculture works that could not be undertaken by a small, ageing, voluntary group such as ours. 19 trees were removed and 3 new ones were planted.
  • To create a Terrain on which to play Pétanque (Boules). Pétanque is a game that families and the disabled can play, the rules have been specially made to enable a handicapped player to participate and can be played from a wheelchair or by a person with one lower limb missing. This additional facility will now make more of the grounds easier to maintain. At Carrbrook Bowling Club Pétanque can now be Played on the First Terrain in Tameside.
  • Thanks to sheer hard work and determination of our Facilitator who solely undertook all the Lottery applications our aims have been achieved. Should any other voluntary group consider taking on such a fund raising / ground improvement project they are warned that our Lottery Improvement Project has taken over two and a half years to complete, and to achieve the outcome, there have been many weeks where over 20 hours of voluntary work has been undertaken, in addition to working full time.
  • The natural beauty of the grounds is now a wonderous sight to behold, however it has come at a price. Unless you have a magnificent obsession you are advised not to commence such a project.
